Background and Experience

Sathi Foundation is a Transgender (TG) led organization and holds the working experience of 18 years in focusing in the area of HIV&AIDS prevention, legal support among the transgender community. In 2005, our organization started by mobilizing the Transgender community through spreading awareness about HIV&AIDS. Later on, from 2006 to 2007 we collaborated with Contech International for Prevention of HIV among and TGs in Lahore and participated as an existing entity in regional consultation meetings about HIV/AIDS prevention needs among and TG Community.

In 2007, we signed an MOU with Action Aid, Lahore, and developed circle groups for HIV/AIDS prevention till 2008. Afterward, we participated in ICCAP, Bali, Indonesia in 2009 to represent the trans community of Pakistan which led us to connect with RAHNUMA FPAP.  From 2010 – 2016, we set up 24 free HIV/AIDS testing camps each year with the help of RAHNUMA FPAP and along the way partnered with Punjab Aids Control Program (PACP) to implement the GLOBAL FUNDS’ project in the surrounding of Lahore from 2010 to 2013. In 2016, SATHI FOUNDATION signed an MOU with Dostana Male Health Society and became a member of CCM in 2018. Also, in 2018, Sathi Foundation signed an MOU with the National Aids Control Program (NACP) to provide free HIV/AIDS testing services and free STI diagnosis and treatment services. Simultaneously, Sathi Foundation signed MOUs with the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and Circle of Change (CoC – Netherlands) to successfully implement and advocate the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2018 in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). We hold several consultations, training, and workshops with Government officials, civil society organizations, and community leaders.

Sathi Foundation holds the 1st Trans Pride of Pakistan in 2018, with a partner organization to celebrate the success of the Transgender Community. In 2019, Sathi Foundation developed a team of 10 community members across Punjab and KPK to report and support violence cases among the transgender community and hold many pieces of training and workshops with the community to raise awareness of basic human rights and rights given by the State. The year 2020 not just strengthened the organizational capacity but also made it possible, conducting our campaigns even more effectively.

For the 2nd time, Sathi Foundation celebrated Trans Pride Pakistan 2020 to help ease the pain of Covid-19 and distributed Life support packages to more than 2700 community members across Punjab. Along the way, Sathi Foundation developed liaisons with Government officials by holding a  sensitization training with Local Police regarding transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2018 and meetings with Gender-Based  Violence (GBV) judges at Peshawar Judicial Complex, developing a volunteer team across Punjab and KPK to provide legal support to the community.
